JISC (2019) defines an e-portfolio as a "digital representation of a student's academic experiences, achievements, and future goals, tailored for a specific audience." It is seen as a valuable tool for 21st-century learning, as it involves skills such as organizing and planning, giving and receiving feedback, reflection, and effective communication with the target audience.
There are different types of e-portfolios, including:
Showcase or Professional ePortfolios: These portfolios showcase a student's best academic work, as well as their extracurricular activities and work placements.
Learning ePortfolios: These portfolios document a student's learning journey for a particular course or program. They are reflective in nature and may involve peer learning and feedback. They are often used as part of formative assessments and feedback processes.
Assessment e-Portfolios: These portfolios may be required as part of a course or program assessment strategy. They are created by students to showcase their knowledge and skills related to a particular subject or topic.
